Unlocking REX in Risk of Rain 2 provides players with a unique hybrid survivor that balances health-draining attacks with powerful self-healing mechanics. To acquire this character, you must complete the Power Plant challenge, which requires careful planning and high environmental awareness. Mastering the unlock process ensures you add one of the most tactical units to your survivor roster.
Acquiring the Fuel Array Equipment
The first step requires starting a new run with any survivor that spawns in an escape pod, such as Commando or Huntress. Head to the rear of your starting pod and interact with the panel to collect the Fuel Array. This item occupies your active equipment slot and remains essential throughout the early stages of your run.
You must exercise extreme caution because the Fuel Array is highly volatile during combat. Dropping below 50 percent health causes the array to explode instantly, ending your run. Avoiding blood shrines and high-damage enemy attacks is critical to keeping the item intact.
Navigating to the Abyssal Depths
After securing the item, progress safely through the first three environments without taking fatal damage. Your primary destination is the Abyssal Depths, which serves as one of the possible Stage 4 environments. Playing on lower difficulty settings like Drizzle can help reduce incoming damage while navigating these dangerous zones.
If your run generates a different Stage 4 map such as Siren's Call, you will need to loop your run or try again. Utilizing Newt Altars on Stage 3 can help ensure passage to the correct environment via the Bazaar Between Time. Staying patient during these transitions keeps your objective within reach.
Locating and Repairing the Broken Robot
Upon arriving in the Abyssal Depths, navigate toward the upper platforms near the central section of the map. You can use the natural geysers or elevated chains to launch your survivor to the higher cliff edges. Look for the deactivated plant-robot hybrid resting on an upper platform hidden near the rock formations.
Approach the broken robot and interact with it while carrying the Fuel Array. Consuming the array completes the Power Plant challenge and permanently unlocks REX for all future playthroughs. You can now select this versatile survivor directly from the character selection menu.
